Grant writing in British Columbia and Alberta

We draft grant applications for organizations and businesses in British Columbia and Alberta. Eligibility first, writing second: we find out which programs you actually qualify for, then draft the application that is worth writing.

What we sell

You submit it, in your own name, and the funder's correspondence comes to you directly. We never contact a funder on your behalf.

On a grant engagement, five things. The Discovery Package is the default first paid piece of work on any grant engagement.

Research

Every program rule read from the funder's own page and dated with when it was last checked.

The Discovery Package

The drafted application

Written by us, or drafted by you and edited by us.

Drafting, two ways

Review

We review the application before it is final.

You then review and sign off the final version before anything goes anywhere.

Drafting, two ways

Where we write

We write

Quoted in writing, after the call.

Grant writing, strategy and policy drafting: strategic mapping, policy drafting, regulatory research, client interviews and primary document writing.

Where you draft and we edit

You draft, we edit

Quoted in writing, after the call.

Editing and narrative finessing: you draft; we fit the narrative to the funder's mandate and edit grammar, formatting and structure. It is not the rate for research or writing.

A plain tip: drafting it yourself and having us edit your draft instead, quoted in writing, is a real way to reduce your own bill.

The submission-ready package

The finished application assembled in the funder's required format, every attachment identified and checked off, and a written instruction sheet telling you exactly how and where to submit it and what to expect back.

Quoted per application. You submit.

You submit. You are the contact of record.

We prepare applications and you submit them. We never press submit, never contact a funder or any government body on your behalf, never appear as your contact on a form, never arrange a meeting with a public office holder, and never answer a funder's post-submission questions directly. Even a bare request for program information is sent by you.

  • You are the contact of record.
  • The funder's correspondence comes to you directly.
  • The application is yours.
  • You are never waiting on an intermediary to relay an answer.
  • If you have read the application well enough to submit it, you have read it.

The application is made in your name and is your representation, not ours. You review and sign off the final version before anything goes anywhere. We make no claim that this model makes a decision come sooner or an application more likely to succeed.

After you submit

The funder writes to you, because you are the applicant. If a funder comes back with questions, you answer them and we draft the answers.

What you receive

  • The written assessment from the Discovery Package.
  • The one-hour review meeting to go through it.
  • The drafted application.
  • The submission-ready package and its written instruction sheet.
  • Drafted answers to any funder questions, for you to send.

Who this suits

Nation-owned and development corporations in British Columbia and Alberta with a capital project, and BC First Nations administrations with a capacity or emergency-preparedness need.

Whether this is your first application or you have grants staff of your own, the order is the same: eligibility first, then drafting, and you submit.

Questions

Do you submit it for me?

No. We prepare the application and you submit it, in your own name. The submission-ready package includes a written instruction sheet telling you exactly how and where.

Do you contact the funder for me?

No. We never contact a funder or any government body on your behalf, never appear as your contact on a form, and never answer a funder's post-submission questions directly. If a funder comes back with questions, you answer them and we draft the answers.

Can I write the first draft myself?

Yes. Editing and narrative finessing is quoted in writing, at a lower rate than drafting: you draft, and we fit the narrative to the funder's mandate and edit grammar, formatting and structure. Drafting it yourself is a real way to reduce your own bill.

Will my application be funded?

That decision is the funder's. Funding decisions rest entirely with the funder, on criteria and priorities outside our control, and we will not put a probability on an application.
